The refrigeration system of a Air Source Conversion Water Heat Pump consists of a compressor and two copper or aluminum coils (one for indoor use, the other for outdoor use) with aluminum fins to facilitate heat transfer. In heating mode, heat energy is extracted from the outside air and circulated through the compressor to the inside of the home as refrigerant. A reversing valve changes the direction of refrigerant flow for cooling and winter defrosting cycles. In warmer months, heat is extracted from the home and discharged outdoors.
